Cinemail grew out of a sucessful movie rental store in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where the company is still based, and thus brings 20 years of experience, expertise and professionalism to your online DVD rental experience. Unlike some companies, Cinemail don't sacrifice individual customer care in a quest to become the biggest rental provider in the country, they'd much rather be the best. For example, rather than having to deal with an automated queue-based system, if you have a query you can phone them and talk to a human being...

Canflix is a relatively new contender in the online DVD rental arena, and although they are not yet as big as Zip they are certainly getting there. One of Canflix's best selling points is the value for money on offer. This is as at least as good as, and sometimes better than, that offered by our number one choice, depending on which package you choose. A minor criticism is that unlike many of our top 10 there are no light-use options available, for example one or two DVDs at a time, though arguably this would not be enough to satisfy most appetites...

Videomatica also prides itself on its broad remit when it comes to stocking the most interesting and eclectic range of movies and TV shows, from favorite foreign foibles to massive multiplex megahits. All-in-all, Videomatica offer a decent DVD rental service and are surely a top choice for those who are interested in expanding their cinematic tastes. However, if you just want to keep the latest studio blockbusters coming cheap and fast to your mailbox then our top ranking sites can probably do it cheaper and faster, albeit without the satisfaction of supporting a smaller..

Premieres.ca |

No. of Movie Titles: 5.000

All in all, Premieres offers a professional service and excellent value for money. The range of titles is not quite as wide as some of the big names in the DVD rental game can offer, nor is the website quite as swish or swanky, and mailing times will suffer if you live a long way from Ontario (compared to companies that operate more than one depot in different parts of the country). Even so, if speed is not your major concern and your taste in movies isn't too obscure, Premieres may well be a strong contender...

Since entering the DVD rental game in 2005 Cyberflix have gained a reputation for both great value for money and occassionally shoddy customer service. If you want your DVDs fast and very, very cheap, Cyberflix may be the online rental provider for you, however when it comes to range, accessibility, customer service and website features this is a far less appealing option...

Peerflix isn't really a DVD rental site, it's more a fiendishly simple way for members to sell unwanted DVDs from their personal collection and buy a new range of DVDs. Peerflix is a clever system, and can be very handy in cheaply recycling your DVD collection to fill in the essential movies you're missing (albeit without the nice, shiny packaging) and weed out those that just take up space on your shelf. It may never supercede conventional DVD rental, but there's certainly a place for it in the market.

Having been around for 6 years now and built up a respectable following, Relay Rental stand out because they emphasise customer satisfaction and keeping members happy over simply keeping the DVDs coming as fast and as cheaply as possible. They offer rather good value for money (and more DVDs per week) if you keep to their weekly returns schedule and they keep sending you new DVDs every week. Otherwise it can be expensive...

DVDFlix offers pretty good value and a fair choice of DVDs. Not outstanding, but probably capable of satisfying the needs of casual DVD renters. There is a contact email address but no phone number and there have occasionally been complaints about how long it takes to get a response and how difficult it can be to cancel after a free trial before they start billing you...

No. of Movie Titles: "over 30,000" apparently

On the face of it Starflix offer unexceptional value for money on an impressive range of titles, though doubts about their actual inventory size and frequent customer service quibbles make it difficult to imagine why you'd take a chance on this company when there are other rental providers out there with excellent reputations for customer service who offer superior value for money...
