Editor's Verdict:

Since entering the DVD rental game in 2005 Cyberflix have gained a reputation for both great value for money and occassionally shoddy customer service. Their website, like their reputation, is similarly a mixed bag. It looks appealing enough but lacks a central homepage around which the rest of the website revolves - there is a welcome page and various options leading off it, but the whole thing lacks a main hub so the experience of visiting it feels rather fragmented.

The tools for searching the available titles are fine, though nothing special, once you have actually signed up but, curiously, Cyberflix makes it difficult to browse their titles properly before you join to get an idea of the choice you can expect. This not only makes one think maybe their selection isn't as great as they suggest (in reality their range is probably wide enough for mainstream tastes, but certainly nothing to write home about) but also makes newcomers feel unwelcome and under pressure to sign up. Its a shame, because with a little more care and accessibility, the website could be so much more engaging.

Where Cyberflix excels is in value for money - each package is at least as cheap as, and usually a dollar or two cheaper than, any of its major rivals. The only quibble with the options available is that they don't offer anything for heavy users who want more than 3 DVDs out at a time (other rental websites offer as many as 8 DVDs at a time on some packages, though admittedly this would be overkill unless your life consists solely of watching DVDs and being fed through a tube).

As with most other DVD rental sites listed in this category, the system works by asking you to create a list of DVDs you want to watch, ranking them in order of priority. However many DVDs your package allows you to have at once are then sent to you by mail. When you're done watching them you just pop them in the pre-paid return mailer. Upon receipt, Cyberflix will mail you the next batch of DVDs from your list, usually the same day. Delivery takes 1-4 days, depending on how close you live to their depot in Ontario, which is actually slightly quicker than most of its competitors.

If you want your DVDs fast and very, very cheap, Cyberflix may be the online rental provider for you, however when it comes to range, accessibility, customer service and website features this is a far less appealing option.
